Big Book - Alcoholics Anonymous
_________________________________________________________________________
The "Big Book" of Alcoholics Anonymous is, for all practical purposes, the Alcoholics Anonymous
Bible: the document in which the key foundational and philosophical concepts of Alcoholics Anonymous are
contained, explained, and illustrated.
The "Big Book" is in Many Respects the Alcoholics Anonymous
"Bible"
The "Big
Book" of Alcoholics Anonymous (also known as Alcoholic Anonymous by some people) is in many respects the
Alcoholics Anonymous Bible, its key text. There are chapters that discuss alcoholism, agnosticism, and
working with others.
Still other chapters focus on the wives, employers, and families of alcoholics.
The Big Book also contains personal stories of 42 alcoholics who, through the support of Alcoholics
Anonymous (AA), recovered from their addiction.
As important as these stories and other topics are, however, the real jewels found in the Big Book revolve
around the philosophy, framework, and implementation of the AA recovery program.
These foundational concepts are contained in The Twelve Steps (found in chapter 5, "How
It Works"), The Twelve Traditions (found in appendix I), and The Twelve Concepts (found
in appendix VII). Not surprisingly, in this age of the Internet, the Alcoholics Anonymous Big Bookis
available online.
| In simple economic terms, alcohol-related issues and problems in the United States
cost society almost $200 billion per year. In human terms, the cost of the following
alcohol-related issues cannot be calculated: fatalities, injuries, illnesses, broken homes, wife
battering, and child abuse, failed health, and destroyed lives. |
Big Book - Alcoholics Anonymous: Conclusion
Whether you call it the "Big Book - Alcoholics Anonymous" or the "Alcoholics Anonymous Bible,"
the main point is that the key philosophical and foundational principles of Alcoholics Anonymous are illustrated,
contained, and explained in the Alcoholics Anonymous Big Book.

| In the strictest sense of the word, people cannot buy alcoholic beverage licenses.
Certainly there are many fees associated with obtaining a liquor license, but the more accurate
description for obtaining such a license focuses more on the many requirements of the application
process. |
